Educated at Pontypridd Boys' Grammar School and entered the Univesity College of Cardiff. Principal at University of Aberystwyth between 1979 and 1989. Vice-chancellor of the University of Wales 1985-87. Honorary member of the Gorsedd Y Beirdd. Died on May 4 2002
