Born on 20 June 1933 in Abercynon. In 1952 he represented Britain at the Olympic Games as an amateur. In October 1954, he won the Empire title. He and his father ran the Richard's Hotel, Cilfynydd between 1954 and 1958. Dai had a specially made boxing ring built at the back of the building for the locals to watch him train. In February 1955 he won the British title and a month later he took the European title. Photograph donated by Dean Powell.
