The cottages were located just below a railway halt (centre right of photograph) on the Alexander, Newport & South Wales Railway line. As a result of a storm on Monday October 19th, water rushed down the side of Mynydd Meio. The swollen Nant Corrwg altered its usual course, flowed over the road at Dynea and entered the houses on the roadside. A sign can be seen below one of the windows which reads 'Licensed to sell tobacco'. The same storm caused the Glamorganshire Canal to burst its banks
